Please read this letter from Pastor Dave Owsley!
Friends, we are in uncharted waters with the covid19 emergency. Our state and federal officials are encouraging every American to stay home in order to reduce the effects of this pandemic. Social distancing, they call it. After consultation with the church council, I am announcing today we will suspend live worship services for at least the next two weeks.
Together we must offer hope to the world and our congregation as we go through this very unusual time. This is not a time to keep your concerns to yourself. If you’re sick, please call me or call the church and leave a message, we will include you on our prayer list. If you need something, someone to go to the drug store for you or to get groceries for you, call someone, call me, we will help if we can. If your lonely and just need to talk with someone, call someone – your friends are here to listen. I’ll be glad to talk with you. If you need to go to the hospital please let us know. I can’t come visit you but I can pray with you over the phone. The church number is 816-230-4926. My cell phone is 816-729-5457.
We are going to reassess the situation in two weeks and determine the best course of action at that time. Meanwhile please give generously to the church as we will have ongoing expenses. We have online giving with “Give Now” or you can always mail a check. Our mailing address is Odessa First UMC, PO Box 107, Odessa MO 64076
Wesley had three simple rules that I believe apply to this situation:
Do no harm
Do all the good you can
Stay close to God.
Let’s do those things, as well as we can for as long as we ever can.
